In Tywyn, Wales, a curious little railway can be found which has had an outsized impact for one of such small stature. The Talyllyn Railway was the first narrow-gauge railway ever to be preserved by a volunteer organization. One member of that organization, Reverend Wilbert Awdry, immortalized the railway as the Skarloey Railway in a series of novels based on his real-life experiences as a volunteer. Awdry's "The Railway Series" would be adapted subsequently into a television phenomenon called "Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends" (or simply "Thomas & Friends") by English television legend Britt Allcroft. "The Railway with a Heart of Gold" would fittingly turn their good will toward a number of local apiaries, helping to support the Welsh bee population while selling yields of honey in their store. Switchman's Talyllyn Honey, or Golden Amber, honors the curious history and preservationist spirit of the Talyllyn Railway with an ink inspired by the rich amber hues of pure honey.
Switchman inks prioritize dry speed over permanence and will dry rapidly even when used in very wet pens. They will resist feathering on highly absorbent papers (printer paper, for example) and are tuned to minimize dry-in while still within pens. Switchman inks shade beautifully and many boast color variation the more thickly they are applied.
