Switchman's Grand Trunk Newsboy, or Creosote Brown, remembers one of the more formative and absurd events in the life of Thomas Alva Edison. As a boy of 14, Edison worked selling concessions and newspapers of his own publication out of the baggage car of a train on the Grand Trunk line. When one of his experiments set the car ablaze, the conductor was none too pleased and very impolitely asked young Thomas to leave (and never return). It was the beginning of a life of innovation (and scandal) which reshaped the world. Creosote Brown is one of Switchman's most striking inks and is difficult to capture in either images or words, but provides shading across both tone and hue, from lightest tan to near black, from brown to purple. It is a true expression of those billowing clouds of chemical smoke, as beautiful as it is chaotic.
Switchman inks prioritize dry speed over permanence and will dry rapidly even when used in very wet pens. They will resist feathering on highly absorbent papers (printer paper, for example) and are tuned to minimize dry-in while still within pens. Switchman inks shade beautifully and many boast color variation the more thickly they are applied.
