New 2021
The newest addition to our retrospective Elmo imprint revisits the pioneering work of Heinrich Helm, – co-founder of Italy’s first fountain pen factory. With its vintage airs and sharp, angled accents, the new Elmo 02 bundles the exuberance of early-century design with incisive modern engineering.
The Montegrappa Elmo 02 Asiago Ballpoint is made of specially formulated, candy-swirl resin containing earthy tones of brown, green, oranges and a white for a beautiful contrast. Channeling the panache of the Roaring Twenties, the organic marbling of the Asiago Ballpoint is unique to each section of the Italian-made resin, giving each pen a personality of its own.
Distinctive design features include geometrically lathed conical points, waisted brass clip, an angled cap-band and a ski-slope grip section and additional heft compared to the Elmo 01 series.
Montegrappa Elmo History
As aficionados know, ‘Elmo’ is a touchstone to Montegrappa’s formative years, and a name synonymous with the democratisation of writing across Italy. The early 20th century was an era of mass adoption, and pen makers would prioritize design over decoration to broaden their appeal. For Helm and his contemporaries, artisanal invention was often a valuable substitute for scarce and expensive metals.
