The Obsidia Fountain Pen pairs deep black Vietnamese lacquer with iridescent shell accents that appear to glow beneath the surface like scattered stars. Each pen is built over a natural wood core and finished through repeated applications of natural lacquer, with each layer carefully cured and hand-polished to create depth, gloss, and durability.
Vietnamese lacquer, known as sơn ta or laccol, is a natural tree-resin lacquer valued for its distinctive depth, flexibility, and warm sheen. Its slower curing process allows the material to develop a rich sense of depth and character, creating a finish with an enduring beauty that distinguishes Vietnamese lacquer from other traditional lacquer techniques.
The dark lacquer provides a restrained, elegant foundation, while the shell fragments shift between blue, green, violet, and silver as the pen moves in the light. This hand-finished process ensures that each Obsidia has its own unique patterning and character.
