The Bolide 2 Fountain Pen features a deep black Vietnamese lacquer base accented by clean, diagonal mother-of-pearl inlays that suggest the trail of a bright object crossing the night sky. The finish is created through multiple layers of natural lacquer, each carefully cured and hand-polished to build depth and a smooth, luminous surface.

Vietnamese lacquer, known as sơn ta or laccol, is a natural tree-resin lacquer valued for its distinctive depth, flexibility, and warm sheen. Its slower curing process allows the material to develop a rich sense of depth and character, creating a finish with an enduring beauty that distinguishes Vietnamese lacquer from other traditional lacquer techniques.

The mother-of-pearl appears suspended beneath the lacquer rather than sitting on top of it, giving the pen a strong sense of dimensionality. Its natural shell inlay shifts between silver, blue, green, and violet tones depending on the viewing angle, ensuring each pen has its own distinctive character.
