The Bolide Fountain Pen is inspired by the brilliance of a celestial object crossing the night sky, featuring sweeping mother-of-pearl bands and subtle crimson flecks set into deep black Vietnamese lacquer. Built over a natural wood core, the pen is finished through repeated lacquer applications, careful curing, and hand-polishing to create a rich, dimensional surface.
Vietnamese lacquer, known as sơn ta or laccol, is a natural tree-resin lacquer valued for its distinctive depth, flexibility, and warm sheen. Its slower curing process allows the material to develop a rich sense of depth and character, creating a finish with an enduring beauty that distinguishes Vietnamese lacquer from other traditional lacquer techniques.
The shell inlay shifts through silver, green, blue, pink, and violet tones as the pen moves in the light, creating a sense of motion and brilliance. The hand placement of the shell and lacquer details ensures that every Bolide has its own distinctive pattern and variation.
