The Aurora X Fountain Pen interprets the movement of the aurora through sweeping diagonal ribbons of mother-of-pearl set into deep black Vietnamese lacquer. The pen is crafted over a natural wood core and finished through repeated layers of natural lacquer, each carefully cured and hand-polished to create a rich, dimensional surface.
Vietnamese lacquer, known as sơn ta or laccol, is a natural tree-resin lacquer valued for its distinctive depth, flexibility, and warm sheen. Its slower curing process allows the material to develop a rich sense of depth and character, creating a finish with an enduring beauty that distinguishes Vietnamese lacquer from other traditional lacquer techniques.
The shell inlays flash with green, blue, violet, and silver tones as the pen turns in the light, creating the impression of northern lights across a dark sky. The design is contemporary and controlled, while the natural variation of the shell ensures that each pen has its own distinctive character.
