Description

Hanukkah is a family-centered celebration that lasts eight nights.  Families gather, play games, sing songs, share gifts and eat traditional holiday foods like latkes (fried potato pancakes). On each of the eight nights, families light a menorah (or hanukkiah) to represent the miracle of the Hanukkah story of the Maccabees. When the Maccabees entered a Temple in Jerusalem it was discovered that only enough consecrated oil remained to light the menorah for one day. Miraculously, when the Temple menorah was lit, it burned for eight days.

“The stamp art features the design from an original wall-hanging. The fiber art was hand-dyed, appliquéd and quilted to form an abstract image of a hanukkiah." The stamp's art has been adapted into a printed design with multiple significant colors wrapping around the Tornado's stainless-steel barrel that is varnished with a gloss clear coat. Each pen is then complete with polished brass accents, a finial topped with additional flames and its serial number engraved of the 718 Limited-Edition. Let’s light the menorah and may this pen bring joy to all who use it this holiday season.

The USPS® Hanukkah stamp was designed by Jeanette Kuvin Oren with Ethel Kessler as the art director.

The stamp art features the design from an original wall-hanging. The blue and purple colors are used to represent the sky, the greens and browns represent the earth.
