Murasaki-shikibu is a bright, true purple with very little shading and no sheen. Murasaki Shikibu shares a name with the most famous author of the Heian period, Lady Murasaki. Her most famous work, The Tales of Genji, is widely considered the first novel in the entire world. In it, the purple berried bush that inspires this ink becomes a focal point of the two lovers, and subsequently became known as the Murasaki Shikibu flower.

The name Iroshizuku a combination of the Japanese words Iro (Coloring), expressing high standards and variation of colors, and Shizuku (Droplet),that embodies the very image of dripping water.
